"What's so new about giving work to young artists? Isn't that what everyone does now?" is the rethoric question in a Facebook thread. A thought that every artist above forty shares. A friend of mine said yesterday "...and I thought the arts were the only place where age didn't matter...". She'd been refused by a couple of voluntary organizations, because of her birthdate.

"Cosa c'è di così nuovo nel proporre giovani artisti? Non è quello che fanno tutti, ormai?" domanda retoricamente qualcuno in una discussione su Facebook. Pensiero condiviso da ogni artista sopra i quaranta. Un'amica mi diceva proprio ieri "...ma io pensavo che il mondo delle arti fosse il solo dove l'età non conta..." Era stata rifiutata da ben due associazioni di volontariato a causa della sua data di nascita. Penso che la data di nascita sia un semplice fatto amministrativo, come il codice fiscale: un dato in più. Non dovrebbe essere invalidante.

She has all the people in the painting running in slow motion to conquer freedom and power, all together. And when Freedom is on top of the hill, the soldiers kill her, and begin killing all around.

Con il titolo La liberté raisonnée, Lucas mette in scena tutti i personaggi del quadro, che corrono al ralenti per conquistare libertà e potere. Quando la Libertà arriva in cima alla collina, i soldati le sparano, la uccidono e cominciano a sparare l'uno contro l'altro.

There are too many billboards around Milan suggesting rape as a fashionable way to have a relationship. Every year some creative finds this great idea, and some client accept and pay for the photos of beautiful barely dressed models, endorsing rape with their logo.

Ci sono troppi manifesti a Milano che suggeriscono lo stupro come un modo alla moda di avere una relazione. Ogni anno qualche creativo se ne viene fuori con questa brillante idea, e qualche cliente approva e paga per la foto e i bei modelli seminudi, confermando con il suo marchio che lo stupro va bene.

Sono francamente stufa di dover subire leggi tanto benintenzionate quanto malpensate, e sospetto che in ognuna di loro ci sia una spruzzatina di corruzione, qualcuno che ha influenzato qualcun altro perché imponesse l'uso di un certo tipo di controlli e non di altri. L'ultima che mi fa dannare è quella per il controllo del consumo energetico con il riscaldamento, che secondo gli stessi impiegati regionali incaricati di verificarne l'applicazione non funziona e crea molti disagi.

I'm really tired of being subjected to well-intentioned, badly thought-of laws, and I suspect most of them have quite a generous sprinkling of corruption, or at least lobbying, when it comes to machines controlling the applications... For instance, why should they install only one kind of valve, to allow me to use my heating system?

coming back - ritorno
I think it's time to go back to the art-blog, let me think... what can I say? I just updated my website www.carladellabeffa.com with some new videos and a (small) twist on the format. It was long overdue, but then i made some very time-consuming videos this year, and i couldn't very well update with unfinished projects. I'm rather happy with the results, anyway, two works are in the French of the Renaissance (Rabelais' Gargantua, and mine) and of the Grand Siècle (Perrault's Le Petit Chaperon Rouge, aka Little Red Riding Hood, a name that doesn't give the real meaning of the original French), and I enjoyed the research. Only some of my videos can be seen online, though: I've been told new videos shouldn't be diffused too early in their career. But I wonder...

Penso che sia ora di tornare all'art-blog, vediamo, cosa ho da dire? Ho appena aggiornato il mio sito web www.carladellabeffa.comcon qualche nuovo video e una (piccola) svolta nello stile. Lo dovevo fare da tempo, ma quest'anno i miei video non erano mai finiti a e non non essendo Michelangelo non potevo mettere online qualcosa di non finito. Sono abbastanza soddisfatta del risultato, comunque, due lavori sono nel francese del Rinascimento (il Gargantua mio e di Rabelais) e in quello del Settecento (Le Petit Chaperon Rouge di Perrault, storicamente mal tradotto con il nome di Cappuccetto rosso) e mi è molto piaciuta la necessaria, appassionante ricerca. Solo qualcuno dei lavori può essere visto online, però: mi hanno detto che i nuovi video non dovrebbero essere mostrati troppo presto, quando sono all'inizio della loro carriera. Ma chissà...
