Mi arrivano tre comunicazioni da un concorso video. La prima dice che i video selezionati sono 44, e che la lista si trova online. La seconda dice che le iscrizioni sono ancora aperte.
La terza è meno importante, dice che se voglio posso far parte del pubblico, in quanto autore di un'opera presentata (ma non selezionata).

I get three communications from the same video award. The first says the selected videos are 44, and their list can be found online. The second one says submission is still open.
The third, less relevant, says I can be part of the public, as the author of one of the submitted (but not chosen) works.
The work I liked best - until now - at the Fondazione Nicola Trussardi video review Tarantula, piazza Duomo, Milan, is Boxer by John Bock. He makes sculptures as costumes, and under the blows they spray spinach purée, small pasta, cauliflowers and such. The rythm is perfect and the editing leaves you breathless. Great!
His works make me think of Guy Ben Ner because of his wonderful Wild Boy, of Fischli & Weiss for their things happening one after the other, of Matthew Barney who sculpts his scenes. But Bock is himself, fast and funny, very good.
And here I talk of the others only because I like them and I'm happy to have the opportunity to think of them. I don't have the habit to find an artist's parents and references to reduce his work to nothing. Originality is buil with present, and past, and one's self. One ingredient alone won't give anything.

Nella rassegna video della Fondazione Nicola Trussardi, Tarantula, in piazza del Duomo a Milano, il lavoro che preferisco finora è Boxer di John Bock. Fa dei costumi che sono sculture e che sotto i colpi esplodono in puré di spinaci, pastina a stelline, cavolfiori e altro. Il ritmo è perfetto e il montaggio lascia senza fiato. Stupendo.
Le sue opere mi fanno pensare a Guy Ben Ner con il suo meraviglioso Wild Boy, a Fischli & Weiss con il loro incatenarsi di fatti, a Matthew Barney che scolpisce gli oggetti di scena. Ma Bock è sé stesso, veloce e spiritoso, proprio bravo.
E io qui parlo degli altri solo perché li rispetto e mi piacciono, e sono contenta di avere l'opportunità di ripensare a quello che fanno. Non è mia abitudine comparare gli artisti, cercare referenti, sminuire. L'originalità si costruisce con il presente, il passato, e pezzi di sé. Solo uno degli ingredienti non basta.
Se fossi uno degli artisti invitati dalla Fondazione Trussardi in piazza del Duomo sarei molto arrabbiata, e anche se fossi la fondazione: già il secondo giorno della rassegna in piazza erigono un'impalcatura e mettono transenne. Oggi si poteva guardare i video da due corridoi: da un lato della piazza attraverso i tubi di ferro, dall'altro in piedi inclinando la testa, tipo torcicollo. Impossibile farlo per un'ora. Per domani mi aspetto dei teloni , qualcosa che peggiori ulteriormente la situazione.
Chi ha autorizzato i due eventi?

If I were one of the artists invited by Fondazione Trussardi in piazza Duomo I would be very angry, and the Fondazione too: on the second day they start scaffolding and put crush barriers all around the square. Today it was possible to look at the videos from one side of the piazza, looking through the scaffolding, or the other side, standing with the head turned up and a stiff neck. Impossible for an hour. By tomorrow they'll have added something more, to make the situation just that bit worse.
Who authorized both events?
La tempesta di domenica ha fatto danni al megaschermo di piazza del Duomo, a MIlano, dove da ieri sera e per tutto luglio si possono vedere le opere di 15 videoartisti, uno al giorno, per un'ora, alle 18 e alle 20. Ieri Vito Acconci, spiritoso ma anche angosciante con il suo video Zone in cui imprigiona un gatto girandogli attorno. Oggi Pipilotti Rist, domani Patrick Tuttofuoco e così via. Il 15 si ricomincia.

Last Sunday's storm has damaged the screen at piazza Duomo in Milan, with its new video review during all the month of July.
