tasse - tax
E bravi quelli dell'Esatri, l'ufficio riscossione tasse comunali di Milano. Dicono che le spese sono di 2,32 euro, ma in fattura ne mettono 2,50. Diciotto centesimi non giustificati per ogni pagamento, mica male...
Sempre più spesso, grazie al sistema fiscale italiano, noi paghiamo le tasse, e ci guadagnano le banche.

How nice of those who process local tax payments for Milan. They say expenses are 2,32 euros but the invoce says 2,50. Eighteen cents for each payment, it makes quite a lot of money by evening.

shock
Quando arrivo a Parigi ho freddo anche se c'è il sole, sono quei tre-quattro gradi di differenza. Lo shock termico è più grave quando torno a Milano: divento tutta rossa per qualche ora, e se a Parigi posso mettere un golfino, a Milano non posso togliermi la pelle, come Marsia.
Ma per fortuna questa vampata non dura molto, solo qualche ora.

Arriving in Paris I'm always cold even with the sun, it's those three-four degrees less that count. The thermal shock is bigger when goiing back to Milan: I'm red in the face for some hours, and if in Paris I can wear another sweater, in Milan I can't very well take off my skin, Marsyas-like.
Luckily, this hot flush doesn't last long, just a few hours.

Dopo molte ricerche compro una valigia: la voglio leggera e abbastanza piccola da essere accettata in aereo. La migliore che trovo, extra light secondo il produttore, pesa 4 chili vuota. Non poche linee aeree accettano solo fino a 6 chili di bagaglio a mano.

After many enquiries I finally buy a bag: I want it light and small enough to be accepted on an airplane. The best I can find, extra light in their opinion, is 4 kilos when empty. Not a few airlines don't accept cabin luggage over 6 kilos.

Già, la Biennale. Ho ricevuto così tanti comunicati prima, che poi me ne sono dimenticata per giorni, e ho buttato via i giornali con i commenti a caldo, senza leggerli.
Va be', pazienza. Troverò qualcosa, suppongo. Anche se di solito la stampa parla molto prima degli eventi, senza averli visti, e poi basta. Li anticipano, anche di mesi, svuotandoli.

Well, the Biennale. I got so many press releases beforehand, that during the opening I forgot for days, and now I've thrown away the newspapers without reading the comments.
Oh, well, no matter. I'll find something, I suppose. Though usually the press talk a lot before the events, when they haven't seen them, and then they stop. Events are empty by then.

in viaggio da sola - travelling alone
Gli alberghi che hanno un sito web ma non mettono i prezzi non mi avranno.
Per soli 35 euro in più al giorno, mi fanno pagare il fatto di andare in vacanza da sola. Sceglierei un posto così se non lo fossi?
Nei ristoranti poi mi mettono vicino ai cessi, o in altri posti altrettanto infelici, e mi servono più in fretta che possono per liberare il tavolo. Meno male che ormai dappertutto è vietato fumare: i posti non fumatori erano sempre i peggiori (lo sono ancora, a Parigi).

The hotels with a website and no price list will not have me. For only 35 euros more a day they make me pay the fact I'm on holiday alone. Would I choose a place like that if I weren't?
Restaurants sit me near the toilets or in other unfortunate tables, and serve me as fastt as they can to free the place. The only god thing issmoking is now forbidden everywhere. non-smoking areas used to be the worst (still do, in Paris).

biennale di venezia - venice biennale
Non so cosa è successo quest'anno alla Biennale, ma se devo fidarmi dei comunicati che ricevo da tutte le gallerie e i PR nelle cui ìiste sono entrata, dovrebbe essere una cosa così piena di eventi collaterali e ufficiali da aver bisogno di 48 ore al giorno per essere vista.
Naturalmente anche loro hanno bisogno di dormire, ma da mesi non si trova un buco. Roberto Cascone, un amico artista e giornalista accreditato, mi aveva offerto un posto nella sua canadese, alla peggio... Uno degli inviti più gentili dell'ultimo decennio. Ma ho il torcicollo, altro che campeggio. Alla Biennale ci andrò dopo l'inaugurazione, come i turisti.

I don't know what happened to Venice Biennale, but if I have to trust the many press releases I get from every gallery and PR in whose list I am, it should be something so full of events inside and outside (do I mean off?) to need 48-hour days to be seen.
Of course those people too need to sleeep, and there wasn't a room anywhere, everything was booked a long time ago. Roberto Cascone, an artist and journalist with a pass, offered me a place in his tent, if nothing better was to be found. One of the nicest invitations of the last ten years. But I have a pain in the neck, no way I can sleep in a camping. I'll go after the opening, as a tourist.

Ha!!! Tre nuovi video! Metterò qualcosa online al più presto, ma già averli fatti e finiti è una bella soddisfazione.
E poi hanno selezionato un mio progetto per una collettiva a Metz, Francia, al centro d'arte Faux Mouvement.
La rassegna fa parte di Virtual Residency, un database di lavori sulle migrazioni più una serie di eventi in giro per l'Europa.
Il mio lavoro, "Expatriate", è una video installazione che parla del disagio di certi momenti vissuti da chi emigra, nel nuovo paese di residenza.

Ha!!! Three new videos! I'll put something online as soon as I can, but to have completed them is already a success.
And they selected a project of mine for a group show in Metz, France, at the arts center Faux Mouvement.
The exhibition is one phase of the Virtual Residency project, a database of artworks on migrations plus some events around Europe.
My work, "Expatriate", is a video installation talking about some uneasy moments all expatriates have in their new countries.
