There was a crash the other day in Milan, involving a bus, a tramway and a SUV, and the newspapers said that "the elderly were trying to escape". Did they mean that the younger passengers were still and calm waiting to be rescued? They didn't mean the passengers were all elderly, because in the following phrase they say "the immigrants". I wonder what happened to the word "passengers", which I used but they didn't. Perhaps they think immigrants and elderly people should be the only clients of public transportation. But then they fight (verbally of course) against air pollution.

C'è stato un incidente grave l'altro giorno a Milano, che ha coinvolto un autobus, un tram e un SUV. I giornali dicevano che "gli anziani cercavano di scappare". Volevano dire che i giovani invece stavano lì buoni e calmi a aspettare i soccorsi? Di certo non volevano dire che i passeggeri erano tutti anziani, perché nella frase dopo dicono "gli extracomunitari". Mi chiedo cosa ha di male la parola "passeggeri", che io ho usato ma loro no. Forse pensano che solo gli anziani e gli immigranti debbano viaggiare con i mezzi pubblici. poi lottano (solo a parole) contro l'inquinamento dell'aria.
