I have a friend, he's a wonderful though rather neurotic person, but a lesser artist than I, we both know: his neurosis don't allow him to be constant, and art needs constance, dedication, not just ideas (he has plenty of those). Anyway, he's been included in a group show portraiting artists, and I didn't. Does it mean I'm not an artist, or I'm just not seen enough in the right places in town? I don't even have a gallery here, not that he does, but everyone knows him.
I'm not begrudging him his portrait, just wondering where and if I went wrong.

Ho un amico, è una persona splendida anche se abbastanza nevrotica, ma entrambi sappiamo che come artista sono meglio io: le sue nevrosi non gli permettono di essere costante, e l'arte ha bisogno di costanza, impegno, dedizione, non solo di idee (di quelle, ne ha molte). Comunque, è stato incluso in una mostra di ritratti di artisti, e io no. Vuol dire che non sono un artista, o solo che non sono abbastanza presenzialista nei posti giusti di Milano? Non ho neanche una galleria qui, neanche lui, ma tutti lo conoscono.
