If art fairs don't believe in video art, why do they schedule reviews? And if they do, why do they interrupt said review for anything, after having shown one video out of twenty, but that one loope forever?
And why do so many artists say they humbly made a video, their first, but they had just a germ of an idea and had it shot by someone else, lighted but another friend and ask everybody for help, signing it anyway as their own work?
And why do Italian museums and fine arts academies still believe that a video documenting a performance, however good and important, is video art? It has been, but now video art is something different, going beyond the document and the documentary.
Salvino Raco, a theatre author and director, says video art is dead anyway. So why worry? on the other hand, painting too was dead, some years ago.

Se le fiere d'arte non credono nella videoarte, perché programmano rassegne? E se ci credono, perché le interrompono per qualunque cosa, dopo aver proiettato venti volte in loop un solo video in una selezione di venti?
E perchè tanti artisti cavalcano la moda e dicono che hanno umilmente ralizzato il loro primo video, ma in effetti hano avuto un'idea non chiara e poi l'hanno fatta girare a un altro, e illuminare a un altro ancora, e cercano suggerimenti da tutti ma firmano loro l'opera?
E perché i musei e le accademie italiane continuano a pensare che il video che documenta una performance, per quanto bella e importante, sia videoarte? Lo è stata, ma adesso la videoarte è qualcosa di differente, che va al di là del documento e del documentario.
Salvino Raco, regista e autore di teatro, dice che la videoarte è morta da un pezzo. Se è vero, perché mi preoccupo? D'altra parte, anche la pittura era morta qualche anno fa.
