Assisto alle prove di due danzatrici che improvvisano mentre Monica Smith suona un bellissimo gong sospeso banalmente su un coso di ferro cromato come quelli dei vestiti nei negozi, uno standino, come lo chiamano a Milano.
La prima è inglese e maestra di yoga e i suoi movimenti meditativi sono sostenuti da un gong che c'è ma si sente appena. L'altra è una danzatrice italiana e la sua performance è violenta, e Monica partecipa con suoni totalmente diversi, anche con il fiato e la voce.
Smith mi dice che sta provando anche con una terza donna, che fa cose ancora diverse. Mi piacerebbe sentire come suona con quest'altra.
Avevo proposto che lavorassero con lo stesso strumento, per poter comparare le performance. Ogni donna, ogni strumento, ogni rapporto, ogni momento ha una sua energia particolare.

I assist to the rehearsals of two dancers improvising while Monica Smith pays a beautiful gong banally suspendend to a chrome stand like the ones they have in shops to hang suits and dresses on.
The first one is English and her meditative movements are sustained by a barely present sound. The other one is an Italian dancer and her performance is very violent, and Monica's music is totally different, she plays with her breath and voice too.
Smith tells me she's rehearsing with another woman as well, and they do still different things. I'd like to hear how she plays with this one too.
I'd been suggesting them to work with the same instrument, to be able to compare the performances. Each woman, each instrument, each relationship, each moment has its special energy.
