Di solito i poeti traducono nella loro lingua madre. Cristina Viti, nata e cresciuta a Milano, ha deciso da ragazzina che preferiva l'inglese. Così scrive in inglese e traduce testi importanti e difficili come quelli di Dino Campana. Partecipa anche ai reading, e mi racconta di una serata in un cortile londinese, con lettura-concerto dell'Ecclesiaste in latino, greco antico, ebraico, aramaico. E' un testo molto bello e molto noto, sul quale si sono esercitati per secoli preti, musicisti, attori e cantanti. E perfino molti pittori: le Vanitas vengono da lì.
La cosa strana è che anch'io ho fatto un video sullo stesso testo, con la stessa logica: i brani più famosi di Qohélet, sono letti in latino, italiano, francese, inglese.

Poets usually translate in their mother-tongue. Cristina Viti, born and bred in Milan, as a teenager decided she liked English best. Now she writes in English and translates difficult, important texts like the ones by Dino Campana. She's into readings too, and tells me of a night in a London yard, with a concert and the reading of the Ecclesiastes in Latin, ancient Greek, Hebrew, Aramaic. It's a very beautiful and famous text on which priests, musicians, singers and actors have been working for centuries. And painters too: the Vanitas paintings come from there.
The strange thing is that I made a video from that same text, with the same logic: in Qohélet the most famous passages are read in Latin, Italian, English, French.
