Ho visto la lingua francese far annegare nelle parole gli scritti di romanzieri ex-russi e ex-cinesi, oltre che dei francesi doc. Non tutti sanno scrivere pagine lunghissime e affascinanti come quelle di Proust. Non che quelli che scrivono in altre lingue sappiano sempre essere brevi e efficaci, o lunghi ma interessanti. E tagliare i propri testi non è tanto facile, ci si affeziona.
Ognuno è prolisso, o capace di sintesi, come può, in ogni cultura, e non è detto che ridurre gli aggettivi dia uno stile migliore, anche se può aiutare.
Comunque, ecco, la lingua francese non è nata per la brevità. Che sia per quello che la abbreviano e smozzicano tanto, riducendo molte parole a semplici suoni monosillabici e irriconoscibili?

I’ve seen French language smother in words the writings of ex-Chinese and ex-Russian novelists, and of the real French. Not everybody can write long wonderful pages like Proust’s. Not that people writing in other languages make always short and good, or long and interesting. People write as they can, everywhere, and reducing adjectives is not always proof ot a better style, even though it helps. And to shorten one’s own texts isn’t all that easy, one grows attached.
Anyway, it’s clear that the French language wasn’t born for brevity. Maybe it’s the reason why they cut it up so badly, reducing most words to mere monosyllabic sounds.
