Un amico mi dice che in un film che entrambi abbiamo visto ci sono troppi luoghi comuni, e a me non pare, un altro dice che è un western, genere in cui i luoghi comuni sono permessi. Io sono contraria alle categorie, perché trovo che limitano e che servono solo agli archivisti. Poi penso, come tante altre volte, che la vita è sempre la stessa, che non è tanto quello che dici ma come lo dici che fa la differenza, che se dovessimo sempre inventare tutto, senza salire sulle spalle di quelli che ci hanno preceduto, forse non avremmo ancora scoperto la ruota. Io no di certo.
Ma forse sto solo cercando scuse per il mio poco talento. E comunque non faccio film, sono solo un’artista.

A friend tells me in a film we both saw there are too many clichés, I disagree, another says it’s a western, and in that genre clichés are allowed. I dislike categories, because I find they’re limiting, just useful for archives. And then I think, not for the first time, that life is always the same, and it’s not so much what you say as how you say it that matters, that if we had to invent it all over again without working on what other people did before us we’d still be at the invention of the wheel, at most. At least, I’d be.
But then, I might just be making excuses for my lack of talent. And anyway I don’t make films, I’m just an artist.
