In casa delle donne belle, non quelle carine come tutte ma quelle davvero belle, si trova sempre qualche cornice d’argento con foto in cui sono perfettamente pettinate, truccate, eleganti, pronte per una festa. Nelle case degli altri, c’è una foto del matrimonio, o un’istantanea al mare, con il sole negli occhi socchiusi.
Il nostro unico vantaggio, di noi normali, è che non vediamo le vecchie foto come testimonianze di come eravamo belle, di quanto siamo invecchiate.

In the living-room of beautiful women, not the pretty ones like most but the real beauties, there’s always some silver frame around pictures where they are very elegant, perfectly hairdressed and made-up, ready for a party. In other people homes, pictures are wedding ones, or a beach snapshot, eyes half-closed against the sunshine. Normal women have only one advantage over beautiful ones: we don’t see our old photos as testimonials of how good-looking we used to be, how old we’re getting.
