Bad design is everywhere. It should make useful things more beautiful, but it often produces not-so-beautiful tools prone to failure. Think about handles which make opening doors and drawers a fight, state-of-the-art leaking sinks, pretty plastic things cluttering your kitchen, beautiful cups with nonsense saucers and handles, pastel-colored non-absorbing towels, cute unwashable lingerie. If these objects had a soul, they’d probably be very unhappy. “Pretty” is not enough.

Il cattivo design è dappertutto. Dovrebbe rendere più belle le cose utili, ma spesso produce oggettinon tanto belle e facili a rompersi. Pensa alle maniglie che rendono difficile aprire porte e cassetti, ai nuovi lavandini che perdono, alle graziose cose di plastica che ingombrano le cucine, alle belle tazze con manici e piattini insensati, agli asciugamani colorati che non assorbono, alla bella bianchera intima che non si può lavare. Se questi oggetti avessero un’anima, sarebbero probabilmente molto infelici. “Carino” non basta.
