I’m happily counting my blessings in terms of sheer numbers, and I remember that it happened before, my work having a lot of viewers. It was in 2000, online,and I had 10,000 viewers in three days. Now it will be something similar with the Subsonica tour. Of course I don’t expect all of them to be fascinated by my video, they go to concerts for the music and the show, and I’m just a detail of it. But if you observed how people rush through museums unseeingly, in search of the one famous work they’re looking for, you’ll know it’s almost impossible to be less keen on art. So I hope they’ll at least see my video, if with distracted eyes. And that’s a real success.
But the funny thing is, although everywhere museums count success in terms of audience, and the contemporary artists enjoying high numbers are just a few, at the same time the small art world doesn’t take any notice of what happens outside of it, on its borders. And yet they’d die to reach other worlds.

Conto allegramente come numeri fortunati gli spettatori che avrò, e mi ricordo che mi è già successo, di avere molti spettatori per il mioo lavoro. Era il 2000, e in tre giorni il mio sito ha avuto 10.000 contatti. Adesso sarà qualcosa del genere, con il tour dei Subsonica. Naturalmente non mi aspetto che siano tutti affascinati dal mio video, vanno al concerto per la musica e lo spettacolo, e io ne sono solo un dettaglio. Ma se hai osservato come la gente corra attraverso i musei senza vedere, cercando quell’unica opera famosa per cui sono entrati, sai che è quasi impossibile avere meno interesse per l’arte. Così spero che almeno vedranno il mio video, anche se distrattamente. E’ già un bel successo.
La cosa buffa è che, malgrado i musei di tutto il mondo contino le presenze come successi, e gli artisti contemporanei che godono dei grandi numeri siano ben pochi, nello stesso tempo il ristretto mondo dell’arte non tiene conto di quello che succede fuori di lui, sui bordi. Eppure darebbero l’anima per raggiungere altri mondi.
