The Turner Prize 2004 has been awarded to Jeremy Deller. Apart from the wonderful if scary flight of millions of bats at the end, the video I saw was no more than a visually mediocre documentary with rather bad editing. Most comments at the end of the show - there was a very nice room with pencils and paper for people to say what they thought - said more or less so. Is a political documentary art? Not cinema-art, I mean, but museum-art?

Il Turner Prize 2004 è stato conferito a Jeremy Deller. A parte il bellissimo e impressionante volo di milioni di pipistrelli alla fine, il video che ho visto era non più di un documentario visivamente mediocre con un montaggio piuttosto scadente. La maggioranza dei commenti alla fine della mostra - c'era una bella stanza con carta e matita perché il pubblico dicesse cosa ne pensava - diceva più o meno lo stesso. Un documentario politico è arte? Non arte-da-cinema, voglio dire, ma arte-da-museo?
