OK, per la fiera abbiamo trovato il televisore. Il giorno dopo l'inaugurazione, quella dove c'era molta meno gente del previsto ma insomma qualcuno era venuto, abbiamo anche ritrovato il mio dvd-player.
Ero molto nervosa e inquieta prima della mostra: credevo di essere l'unica videoartista invitata, e non avere un televisore mi avrebbe costretta a definirmi altrimenti, ma soprattutto a esporre altri lavori. E in due giorni non avevo tempo per cambiare programma.
I miei video sono fatti in un modo tutto diverso dai lavori fotografici, non per accumulo, strato su strato, ma su un progetto, a volte una sceneggiatura: filmo solo quando ho già in mente cosa fare. Certo faccio buon uso dell'imprevisto, che mi dà bellissime sorprese. E pare che il sistema funzioni, se negli ultimi tempi questi lavori sono stati invitati più spesso a partecipare a rassegne internazionali. In tutte c'è qualcosa che manca, almeno all'inizio: il sonoro, il televisore... deve essere un problema del settore, sembra che la videoarte abbia la vita difficile.

Ok, so now we at the art fair have found a tv set. The day after the opening, when there was a lot less people than promised but at least someone came, we even found my lost dvd-player. I was very upset and anxious for a couple of days before the show: I thought I was the only video-artist invited, and without tv I should have to be defined by other words. And show other works. But two days are not enough to change the plans for a show.
My videos are made in a different way from the photographic works, not built layer upon layer but on a project, sometimes a script: I only shoot when I already know what to do. I use all unexpected things that happen during the shooting, there are good ideas out there. Those works are invited more often to international video reviews, so probably my method works. Every time there's something missing, at least at the start: the sound, the tv set... finding operating difficulties seems to be typical of the video-art set.
