Ergin Cavusoglu, di origine turca, è nato in Bulgaria, vive a Londra, partecipa ai concorsi per la Gran Bretagna ma rappresenta la Turchia alla Biennale di Venezia. Saverio Lucariello vive a Marsiglia, espone in tutti gli spazi pubblici e nelle gallerie francesi, ma alla Biennale di Venezia lo invitano come italiano. La Svizzera offre la residenza e presenta come svizzeri artisti e musicisti di ogni provenienza, purché con una certa notorietà.
Qualche settimana fa, su una rivista d'arte, il critico Marco Senaldi parlava di una tendenza degli artisti di andare, come gli atleti, nella squadra che li paga meglio. A me non pare che sia così: forse gli artisti vanno nella squadra dove hanno più probabilità di essere visti. Però se uno è scappato dal suo paese perché ci stava male, è strano poi rappresentarlo alla Biennale.

Ergin Cavusoglu, born in Bulgaria in the Turkish minority, lives in London, is admitted in competitions as an UK artist but represents Turkey at venice Biennale. Saverio Lucariello lives in Marseille, exhibits in most public spaces and galleries in France, but to the Biennale he was representing Italy. Switzerland invites well known artists of every nationality to live there and presents them as Swiss.
Some weeks ago, on an arts magazine, critic Marco Senaldi wrote of a tendency of the artist to go, like athletes, in the best-paying team. I don't quite agree: perhaps artists go to the team that allow them the biggest visibility. Although if they went away from their countries because they weren't happy there, it's strange to represent them at the Biennale.
