These are some questions asked by artists living in countries where institutions try to do something with and for contemporary art. In Italy we don't have many of those, and i believe curators do their job. But we have our star-curators all right. Only in Milan in recent years we have seen at least three art shows (Pac, Palazzo Reale) advertised as "a show by+curator's name". As if the artists were a simple accident.
And yet, if one of those called me I think I'd happily accept to be in "their" show.

Queste sono alcune delle domande che si fanno gli artisti nei paesi dove le istituzioni si occupano di arte contemporanea. In Italia di strutture così ce ne sono abbastanza poche, e secondo me i curatori fanno il loro mestiere. Ma le nostre star della curatela le abbiamo anche noi. Solo a Milano, negli ultimi anni abbiamo visto almeno tre mostre (Pac, Palazzo Reale) pubblicizzate come "una mostra di+nome critico". Come se gli artisti fossero un semplice incidente.
Eppure se uno di loro mi chiamasse credo che parteciperei alla "sua" mostra senza fiatare.
